The Great Resignation
In 2021, a record of over 47 Million (yes Million!) Americans quit their jobs last year. According to a recent article in Fast Company, “Not only are workers more valuable today, as indicated by rising wages, they are going to be even more valuable tomorrow. Far from being a temporary condition, the labor shortage is likely to be long term.”
This is definitely not “new news”, however, since carriers have experienced trouble filling positions and keeping adequate staff levels since the onset of the pandemic. Finding and attracting the right talent, the costs of training, and keeping that talent, are issues the industry continues to face as (at least this phase of) the pandemic begins to wane.
Per Isabelle Santenac in an article on Insurance News Net, “The scarcity of key skills and the “Great Resignation” mean that insurers must address the traditional view of the industry as slow-moving and dull if they are to become employers of choice,” she said.
